What better way to start to my new blog than with two dog photography awards.  I joined the Guild of Photographers last year but I only started to make the time to enter their competition a couple of months ago, so I’ve been thrilled to get two Bronze Awards already – one for this photo of a beautiful border collie running along his favourite muddy track; the other for a portrait of cute little Blue, a beautifully behaved 10 week old black labrador puppy.

Entering photography awards is an art in itself.  What you and I look for as pet owners is not necessarily what the judges are looking for.  Whilst expression and capturing emotion are important,  there are lots more technical and compositional factors to take into account too.  And each competition places different emphasis on each of these.

So I’m still working out what the Guild are looking for, but I’m definitely aiming for a silver one next 🙂
